We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate and experienced insurance professional who is looking to share their expertise and knowledge.

Join FMG’s Underwriting Team – where technical skill meets real-world impact

At FMG, underwriting is more than just assessing risk—it’s about shaping the future of rural, commercial, and corporate insurance in New Zealand Aotearoa. While many know us for our work supporting farmers and growers, FMG also supports a growing portfolio of commercial and corporate clients across a wide range of industries.

About the Role: As an Underwriter-Technical, you’ll provide crucial technical underwriting advice and guidance, support quality business acceptance and work on business-wide initiatives to enhance efficiencies and client offerings.

You’ll also have the opportunity work alongside other experienced underwriters to craft bespoke insurance solutions, including co-insurance; gain exposure to quota share arrangements and the direct management of own capacity and retention, and how we place facultative reinsurance directly from within the underwriting team—giving you a rare, end-to-end view of the insurance lifecycle.

About You:

  • Minimum 5 years of demonstrated commercial insurance or underwriting experience
  • ANZIIF (or equivalent) qualification (or working towards it)
  • Strong commercial and insurance acumen, including pricing and market dynamics)
  • Proven ability to influence, build, and manage strong internal relationships
  • Excellent organisational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a pragmatic approach
  • Experience across a range of non-consumer lines (e.g. SME, corporate, specialty) will be highly regarded and is key to success in this role.

Why FMG? We know our success is because of our people, so when you join our team, it's our priority to make sure you're well looked after and feel a part of the FMG Culture. FMG also offers free life insurance and income protection, 4% company contribution to superannuation, flexible working practices, five paid professional development days, 2 paid wellbeing days, annual salary reviews and a paid give back day every year – among many exciting benefits.
