Transportation and Logistics

Port of Tauranga is New Zealand’s largest port and international cargo gateway. Highly skilled and motivated people help the Port to achieve world-class productivity rates. We pride ourselves on building teams of great people doing great work.

Our Payroll Function administers weekly pay for two businesses with a combined FTE of ~500 employees who work across various unique roles (salaried and waged).

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Payroll Specialist to join our small but highly effective team. The role would suit a professional with proven experience in payroll who enjoys working collaboratively with others.

Ensuring our people are paid correctly is the core function of this role. Working alongside our Group P&C Manager and Senior Payroll Specialist, the role adds value beyond the department's daily, weekly, monthly, and annual processes. Last year, we implemented a new payroll system, Jemini. The successful candidate will have the scope to enhance our utilisation of the platform with a continuous improvement mindset.

We’re looking for someone confident in exploring new technology and understanding data. We expect that you will:

· Demonstrate the highest levels of attention to detail and confidentiality in handling sensitive data and information;

· Prioritise exceptional customer service so that our people trust in the accuracy of their pay. This will include responding promptly to resolve issues proactively;

· Maintain the integrity of our payroll system and data, adhering to best practice processes that ensure the accuracy and efficiency of payroll processes;

· Be familiar with cyclical and ad hoc payroll processes such as ACC, benefits, deductions, month-end, year-end, etc.;

· Seek to continuously develop in the role, keeping abreast of the latest legislative requirements to ensure we are meeting our obligations; and

· Collaborate openly and honestly with the wider Corporate Services Team on projects and tasks that relate to our department.

This is a full-time position with the option to work from home occasionally.

To be successful in your application, you will have:

· At least 5 year’s experience in a similar position;

· Excellent communication skills;

· The confidence to work both autonomously and with others when required;

· Strong organisational and time-management skills to plan, prioritise, and meet deadlines efficiently;

· A friendly and approachable manner with a good sense of humour.

Experience with Jemini is not essential, but an enthusiasm to explore new technologies and learn quickly will be advantageous.

Port of Tauranga is a drug and alcohol-free workplace. The successful applicant will be required to pass a drug and alcohol test and background checks. Legal entitlement to work in New Zealand is also required.
