Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga is looking for a special support worker to be part of our medication support team delivering prescribed medication to our clients/whaiora in the community.

Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga (TToH) is a Ngāti Kahungunu mandated, kaupapa Māori, values-based health and social services organisation providing services to our community along the East Coast of the North Island, from Mahia to Rimutaka. Our health, social, education and community development teams have been working successfully with whānau for nearly 40 years. Our Whakakitenga (Vision) is ‘Te Haaro o te Kahu ki Tauwhakarere – The Hawk sees beyond the horizon to our future’.

Reporting to the Team Manager and as part of the Oranga Hinegaro Mental Health and Addictions team, we are committed to supporting our clients to towards health and wellbeing.

Your Key Responsibilities will be to:

  • Deliver prescribed medication to our whaiora/clients
  • Build rapport and support clients with their medication, following the 5 R’s of medication competency
  • Ensure the safe and appropriate handling of medication and any personal information at all times
  • Accurately observe, record and report each contact with our whaiora
  • Pack the medication or provide other support worker assistance as required

This role's roster is 7 days on 7 days off, 66 hours per fortnight. The working week will be a split shift from 6:30am to 11:00am and  5:30pm to 10:00pm. 

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Level 4 Mental Health & Wellbeing or similar or be working towards a health related qualification
  • A current, full, clean driver license and excellent driving skills (deliveries in TToH fleet vehicle)
  • Current First Aid Certificate (ideally)
  • Experience giving medication and understanding of the 5 R’s of Medication competency
  • Verification of Full COVID vaccination
