Kernohan Engineering Ltd - offering generous pay, putting your safety first, treating our people well and having fun along the way is what makes us tick..

Due to internal promotions and business growth we need two more Team Leaders for our contract maintenance business. Is that you?

About the Job

You will get to play a proactive hands-on leadership role overseeing a team of professional tradespeople providing  maintenance and reliability expertise to a wide and varied range of customers including fisheries, food production, aquaculture, general marine, sawmills, MDF/LVL manufacturing and so forth.

You will also get to use your well developed maintenance engineering skills, knowledge, and abilities to deal with diverse on-the-job challenges as well as leading and supporting the team under your supervision.

About you

Trade qualified in a mechanical engineering field and with solid hands-on maintenance experience, both breakdown and preventative, you may already be in a foreperson/supervisory type of role or you might be a leading-hand hungry for your next step.

You love nothing better than to be working on bearings, seals, machinery alignment, gearboxes, transmissions, and pump/valve/pipe systems. At the same time you have great people skills and genuinely enjoy leading and coaching your team to produce  high quality work.

You are also not afraid of computers and are comfortable with admin tasks such as quoting work, creating job packs, etc.

With a desire to get in and use your excellent diagnostic and fault-finding skills to resolve problems, ideally you will also have:

  • Proven ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Exposure to condition monitoring and reporting.
  • Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Certified competence as a TIG/MMAW welder.

You don’t want just a job, but a role where you are expected to think for yourself and make decisions. You want to be given the opportunity to not only grow your own skills and be fairly rewarded for your talent, but also have the chance to help grow the skills of your team, to create a group of high performance professionals like you.

You are definitely someone who relishes being trusted to do what you do best – work smart, work safe, find solutions, and own what you do.

About us

The Kernohan team loves nothing more than a job well done. Happy customers and proud staff are a strong combination and we’re equally committed to both.

Providing expert maintenance services to multiple industries has been a key part of our business since 1972. It can be a complex and risky job, and we stand by our commitment to deliver services safely, to the right standard, on budget and on time.

We routinely help customers with:

  • planned 24/7 shutdowns
  • preventative plant maintenance
  • emergency break downs and call outs

Our Nelson facilities are a great base from which to service both local and nationwide customers. With years of experience providing specialist maintenance services to nationwide customers, often in remote and hostile locations, we’ve had ample opportunity to refine our skills in mobilising people and plant. And now you can be part of all of this!

So, if you care about your reputation as a maintenance engineering professional and want to work for a company equally committed to this, then applying to this vacancy should be top of your To-Do List!
