About the Role
This is a senior, hands-on Health & Safety Manager role with real ownership, reporting to the CEO.
You will lead health and safety across the business, ensuring compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and working closely with regulators, including WorkSafe New Zealand and Maritime New Zealand.
This role requires strong, on the ground presence—working directly with managers, skippers, drivers, and frontline teams to manage risk in the workplace. Based in Queenstown, with regular travel to remote operational sites in Milford Sound. Some after-hours involvement will be required, especially involving incident management This is a part-time position, 20-25 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and continuously improve the Health & Safety Management System
- Ensure compliance with NZ legislation and regulatory requirements
- Identify and manage risks across marine, coach, and remote operations
- Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions
- Deliver practical safety training and support frontline leaders
- Conduct audits, site visits, and safety inspections
- Report on safety performance to senior leadership
- Play a lead role during incident management
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in a Health & Safety Manager or Senior Advisor role
- Strong knowledge of NZ health & safety legislation and compliance frameworks
- Experience in high-risk environments (transport, marine, tourism, or similar)
- Demonstrated ability to influence and coach operational teams
- Experience with incident investigation and risk management systems
- Confident communicator with a practical, solutions-focused approach
- Competent with utilising IT based systems to meet business needs
