Clinical Placement Lead
We are seeking a Clinical Placement Lead - Nursing to join Te Puna Whai Ora – Department of Nursing at Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology. This is a key leadership role within our nursing team, providing oversight and leadership of clinical learning and placements across our Bachelor of Nursing programmes at Mokoia and Windermere campuses as well as our Diploma in Enrolled Nursing.Clinical learning is fundamental to the success of our nursing programmes. In this role, you will lead the people, partnerships and processes that enable our ākonga to access high-quality clinical learning experiences and successfully progress towards becoming registered and enrolled nurses.

As Clinical Placemnet Lead Nursing, you will build and maintain strong professional relationships with clinical placement partners across the rohe and work closely with our nursing leadership and teaching teams to ensure clinical learning meets curriculum, practicum and professional regulatory requirements.You will provide leadership and oversight across our clinical placement function, including our Practicum Advisor, Student Nurse Educators (SNEs), Clinical Coordinator, Clinical Administrator and Clinical Technicians. The role also works closely with Programme Manager Nursing, Programme Leads, and teaching teams to support ākonga progression and respond effectively to issues arising within clinical practice.Key responsibilities include:
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with clinical partners across the rohe to facilitate sustainable, high-quality practicum placements.
- Ensuring agreements, contracts and obligations with clinical partners are negotiated and met.
- Coordinating and overseeing clinical experiences to ensure they provide high-quality learning opportunities for ākonga.
- Providing leadership and oversight of Student Nurse Educators and other kaimahi supporting clinical learning.
- Leading the Clinical Practice Committee and monitoring the clinical components of our nursing curricula.
- Working collaboratively with nursing teaching and leadership teams to support ākonga progress and manage clinical concerns.
- Supporting effective preparation for clinical placements, including oversight of our simulation laboratory resources.
The position has significant internal and external relationships, including with Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, primary and community healthcare providers, kaupapa Māori providers and other education providers.

You will be an experienced Registered Nurse and confident leader who understands the importance of relationships in creating excellent clinical learning experiences. You will be comfortable working across tertiary education and clinical environments and able to bring people together around a shared focus on positive outcomes for ākonga.You will bring:
- Registration as a nurse, with a master’s degree or equivalent.
- A tertiary teaching qualification.
- Strong leadership and team-building skills and experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A demonstrated commitment to relationship building and partnership.
- Strong organisational, data management and reporting skills.
- A commitment to ensuring positive outcomes for ākonga.
- A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Māori success, equity and culturally responsive practice.
