Youth Practitioner - Pacific Focus
An exciting opportunity has become available in Odyssey's innovative, school-based programme, Stand Up! and Amplify! for this Pacific focused Youth Practitioner role.
This programme takes a developmental approach to engaging with rangatahi (young people) whose lives are impacted by alcohol and/or other drugs. You will be a motivator for positive change, working with rangatahi in assigned secondary schools across South Auckland. Through group and individual interventions, you will support them to identify and achieve their own goals within the programme.
In addition to delivering the Stand Up! and Amplify! programme, the Pacific focus role would also aim to promote the development of Pacific cultural competency and practice within the team. You will have a strong understanding of Pacific frameworks, cultural identity, connectedness and belonging. You will be passionate about supporting the team’s growth and knowledge of cultural safety alongside leadership.
Maturity, reliability, honesty and common sense are key attributes we are seeking. Our ideal candidate will also have:
- Minimum L4 Health and Wellbeing qualification with 2 years’ experience working with rangatahi in a health, mental health or addictions (AOD) work setting with a commitment to pursue an agreed relevant registration pathway.
Or currently studying a relevant Tertiary (Level 7) qualification e.g. Social Work, Counselling or addictions - A passion for working with young people in the field of youth development
- Knowledge of the effects related to the misuse of alcohol and other drugs, including methamphetamines and other current substances of use/abuse
- Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team
- Knowledge of the customs/culture of different Pacific Peoples, tikanga Māori and the application te Tiriti o Waitangi to own area of professional practice
- Strong communication skills and ability to establish effective relationships and networks
- A full, clean driver’s licence
- Knowledge of the culture and traditions of Pacific peoples (desirable)
- The ability to speak in one/ or more Pacific languages (desirable)
In return we offer:
- A salary between $69,076 and $79,393 depending on registration and experience
- 22 days annual leave plus 5 days paid study leave per annum
- A full-time role, Monday to Friday, 7.30am – 4.00pm

As a member of a lively, passionate team of youth practitioners, you will be supported to work with our clients/rangatahi through on-going, training, professional development and clinical supervision.
