We have a great opportunity for a motivated and committed Works Foreperson to join our River Management Team, based from Kairanga and reporting to the Works Supervisor. 

You will join a close-knit team, responsible for river and drainage activities in our region. This is an opportunity to have in-depth involvement in the many and varied projects focussed on keeping people and property safe from flooding. As a Works Foreperson you will be working to organise and supervise field staff and contractors in the execution of flood / erosion control and drainage works in accordance with agreed programmes and accepted practices. This will involve varied manual tasks and operating light plant and equipment. You will be required to develop good working relationships with Iwi, other agencies, and our ratepayers – particularly those in the rural area.

About you 

We are looking for a person who has both the practical and people skills to manage and organise tasks and be able to build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve practical outcomes. 

Ideally you will be self-motivated with a passion to work outside, capable with on-site direction, supervision and safety management of contractors, as well as the undertaking of inspections and maintenance of council’s river and drainage assets. Having a solid understanding of farming operations and an ability to work co-operatively with landowners and contractors is a must, along with experience within the field of river and drainage. We work over a large area, so holding a current full driver’s license is essential. A working knowledge in Health and Safety, experience in contract supervision, and outstanding communication skills will also make you stand out above the crowd.
