This is a Fixed term part time opportunity from 20 hours per week. 

Are you passionate about people and driven to make a difference?

We’re looking for an energetic, motivated, and empathetic individual to join our team as a Work Ready Champion. This role supports people into employment by building confidence, creating pathways, and walking alongside them as they step into meaningful work.

As part of the Mayor’s Taskforce for Jobs (MTFJ) initiative, you’ll work one-on-one with rangatahi and others facing barriers to employment—providing practical support, coaching, and encouragement to help them grow their confidence and skills.

You’ll work closely with our Community Employment Connector to ensure a seamless journey from coaching to placement, forming a connected and supportive team making a real difference across Horowhenua.

He kōrero mōu – About You

You’ll bring:

  • Experience working directly with people in coaching, mentoring, youth work, or employment support
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by those not in employment, education or training (NEET)
  • Familiarity with local training providers, social services, and support networks
  • Basic understanding of employer expectations and workplace readiness
  • Strong communication skills—empathetic, clear, and motivational
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Confidence using digital tools to manage client records and appointments
  • Adaptability and a solutions-focused mindset
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively

Ngā kawenga – What You’ll Be Doing

  • Coaching clients to build confidence, motivation, and readiness for employment
  • Supporting with CV writing, job applications, and interview preparation
  • Organising or delivering training sessions (e.g. workplace readiness, driver licensing, first aid)
  • Maintaining regular check-ins to keep clients on track
  • Identifying barriers and connecting clients to support services
  • Managing accurate client records using MTFJ systems
  • Collaborating with the Community Employment Connector to align support and opportunities
  • Celebrating success and contributing to programme improvement
