Mō te tūraka mahi | About the role
Te Kura Whakaora Ngangahau | The School of Occupational Therapy is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, experienced, passionate and motivated educator who will create an outstanding learning experience for ākonga (learners) within the Bachelor of Occupational Therapy.
Based in either Central Otago or Te Tai Tokerau regions, you will join the Occupational Therapy Fieldwork team to deliver occupational therapy theories and practices to ākonga (learners) studying towards a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy in our new Work Augmented Learning delivery. There is also an opportunity for you to teach into a number of academic courses, including Human Mind and Behaviour and Human Body and Movement 1 & 2. You will draw on your clinical practice experience working as an occupational therapist | kaiwhakaora ngangahau, which will contribute to the education of ākonga in Aotearoa/New Zealand.
In this role, you will design and deliver innovative, blended learning experiences that support diverse learner needs and promote student success.
You will:
- Deliver engaging teaching across a range of learning environments including classroom and online contexts
- Work alongside other kaimahi | staff to ensure appropriate preparation for your allocated course/s
- Contribute towards ākonga attendance, course guide information, curriculum development, student results, moderation processes, and progress reports.
- Support and supervise ākonga in academic, practical and fieldwork settings
- Be a member of the Fieldwork team with a particular focus on nurturing Fieldwork experiences in your region.
- Provide pastoral care and respond to learner needs to support achievement and wellbeing
- Contribute to curriculum design, development and review
- Assess student learning and provide timely, constructive feedback
- Build strong relationships with colleagues, industry and community partners
- Promote occupational therapy education in your region
We see this role as being split across the Central Otago and Whangarei regions at 0.3-0.4 FTE (11.25-15 hours/week) in each region.

Key to your success in this role will be your motivation and desire to be part of the development of future kaiwhakaora ngangahau | occupational therapists to practice in Aotearoa New Zealand.
We are looking for someone who:
Ø has clinical occupational therapy practice experience
Ø has outstanding network connections to enhance our ākonga fieldwork placements
Ø is effective in their knowledge and practice on how kawa whakaruruhau | cultural safety can be demonstrated as a kaiwhakaora ngangahau | occupational therapist in an Aotearoa New Zealand context.
Ø is committed to help ākonga learn, with an appreciation of and understanding of diverse learning needs will be an effective Te Tiriti o Waitangi partner, by your knowledge of Te Ao Māori, and supporting the values and tikaka of mana whenua throughout your mahi
Ø possesses excellent communication skills with a natural ability to engage and build relationships especially maintaining mana whenua connections
Ø has NZ registration as an occupational therapist with a current annual practicing certificate
Ø holds a postgraduate qualification would be an advantage or would be willing to work towards one
Ø has experience in research would be an advantage
Ø has a tertiary teaching qualification or a willingness to undertake training in this area
Ø has good computer literacy and ability to use full suite of Microsoft products (particularly Word, Excel and SharePoint/Teams).

You will have demonstrable health and safety best practices and enjoy being part of a team who support each other. You will easily be able to build and maintain relationships and communicate well via email, phone and face-to-face.
