Mō te tūraka mahi | About the role 

The School of Occupational Therapy is seeking to appoint enthusiastic Occupational Therapists/Kaiwhakaora Ngangahau with knowledge and expertise of tikanga Māori to work with the academic team as we strengthen our commitment to honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We welcome applications from tangata whenua kaiwhakaora ngangahau for this role, and those with experience, and commitment to developing culturally responsive practice. 

Based in either Kirikiriroa | Hamilton or Ōtepoti | Dunedin, you will be part of a team to deliver occupational therapy theories and practices to ākonga (learners) studying towards a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy. Your role will be to teach courses that prepare ākonga for fieldwork practice and while they are on fieldwork.  You will draw on your experience working as an occupational therapist/Kaiwhakaora Ngangahau, and/or contributing to the education of students in Aotearoa/New Zealand.  

The role includes:

Ø preparing and delivering content for assigned fieldwork courses within the Bachelor of Occupational Therapy

Ø connecting with providers and securing placements for our ākonga

Ø work with colleagues to plan, develop and contribute to the review of fieldwork courses to ensure they meet learning needs and occupational therapy industry requirements.

Ø provide pastoral support to our ākonga as needed while the ākonga are on fieldwork placements.

Key to your success in this role will be your motivation and desire to be part of the development of future kaiwhakaora ngangahau | occupational therapists to practice in Aotearoa New Zealand. 

We are looking for someone who:

Ø has clinical occupational therapy practice experience 

Ø is effective in their knowledge and practice on how kawa whakaruruhau | cultural safety can be demonstrated as a kaiwhakaora ngangahau | occupational therapist in an Aotearoa New Zealand context.

Ø is committed to help ākonga learn, with an appreciation of and understanding of diverse learning needs 

Ø will be an effective Te Tiriti o Waitangi partner, by your knowledge of Te Ao Māori, and supporting the values and tikaka of mana whenua throughout your mahi 

Ø possesses excellent communication skills with a natural ability to engage and build relationships especially maintaining mana whenua connections

Ø is committed to help ākonga learn, with an appreciation of and understanding of diverse learning needs 

Ø has NZ registration as an occupational therapist with a current annual practicing certificate

Ø holds a postgraduate qualification would be an advantage or would be willing to work towards one

Ø has experience in research would be an advantage

Ø has a tertiary teaching qualification or a willingness to undertake training in this area

Ø has good computer literacy and ability to use full suite of Microsoft products (particularly Word, Excel and SharePoint/Teams).
