Huia Mai provides Māori informed services and support and is an integral part of Visionwest. Issues of poverty, stress, trauma, grief and abuse can stop people developing into who they want to be. Huia Mai provides ongoing support and advocacy to whānau, ensuring they receive all the services they need to affect change and transformation in their own lives and the lives of their whānau.

You will also:

  • Ensure clients needs are met, and they are encouraged and empowered enabling them to find identity, make plans, set goals
  • Fulfill the requirements of contracts and reporting to the Ministry of Social Development, Oranga Tamariki and other stakeholders regarding Social Work practice through the Whānau Centre
  • Provide case management to whanau and assess the needs of the clients entering the Whānau Centre
  • Ensure our social work practice reflects and is aligned to the Visionwest Kaupapa Māori Framework He Pou Whakakitenga
  • Use agreed evaluation system, and other quality monitoring systems as required
  • Complete any other tasks as required by the Kaiārahi Team Leader – Whānau Centre or the Pou Ārahi Whānau Services

You will need:

  • Social worker qualification (Bachelors) with 3+ years minimum experience
  • Experience in networking within the community and related agencies
  • Knowledge of te reo me tikanga Māori (at least intermediate level an advantage)
  • Experience of using a client database tool to capture notes is required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to deal sensitively with clients
  • Experience in the Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook and Teams
