The Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Well Child Tamariki Ora Kaiāwhina (Case Worker) to join our Kahu Taurima team in a full-time, permanent role.

Reporting to the Clinical Nurse Leader – Kahu Taurima, this role supports whānau with tamariki aged 0–5 years, with a strong focus on early intervention and the importance of the first 2000 days of life.

The purpose of this role is to work alongside whānau, caregivers, and the wider clinical team to support tamariki to achieve optimal health and developmental outcomes. You will provide whānau support, health education, coordination, and navigation, ensuring families are well informed, connected to services, and supported to give their tamariki the best possible start in life.

Your mahi will include:

  • Providing whānau support and Tamariki Ora additional checks in homes and community settings
  • Delivering health education and promotion to parents and caregivers
  • Supporting parents to understand child development, health, and wellbeing
  • Coordinating and facilitating access to health and community services
  • Supporting immunisation uptake, screening, and referrals
  • Working closely with nurses, midwives, ECE services, kōhanga reo, and other providers
  • Maintaining accurate client records and contributing to reporting requirements

This role is community-facing, relationship-driven, and grounded in culturally responsive, whānau-centred practice.

About You

You will be someone who genuinely enjoys working alongside whānau and tamariki and understands the importance of early years support.

You will bring:

  • Experience working with whānau, parents, or caregivers in health, education, or social service settings
  • A calm, caring, and empathetic approach, particularly when working with vulnerable families
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Confidence working independently while contributing positively to a multidisciplinary team
  • An understanding of child growth and development
  • A commitment to kaupapa Māori approaches and culturally safe practice
  • An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and working in partnership with whānau

A Certificate in Tamariki Ora, or a qualification/experience in teaching, social work, or health, is desirable. Experience working within iwi or Māori organisations is highly valued.

You must hold a full, clean Class 1 driver’s licence and be willing to undergo reference checks and police vetting.
