Southern Cross North Harbour Hospital is the only private surgical in-patient hospital on the Auckland’s North Shore. North Harbour Hospital has 8 Operating Rooms, a 14 bed Post Anaesthetic Care Unit, a modern well-equipped day stay facility unit and a 70-bed ward which includes a 4-bed intermediate care facility (ICF). 

Surgical specialities include General Surgery, Gynaecology, Oral & Maxillofacial surgery, Urology, Orthopaedic surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive surgery, Urology, Otolaryngology and Robotic Surgery. In addition to the hospital, the broader North Shore campus is also home to a purpose-built endoscopy suite, on-site cardiology services, cancer care, pharmacy, sports medicine, radiology and more.

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

We are seeking an organised and proactive Ward Clerk to support our team under the guidance of the Ward Services Manager. This is a key coordination role that contributes to safe, efficient and high‑quality patient care while delivering excellent customer service to patients, whānau, staff, medical specialists and visitors.

This is a fast‑paced and varied role. The first part of the day focuses on ward coordination tasks such as patient bed allocations, managing patient diets and menus, liaising with clinical teams, ambulance services and district nurses, and maintaining accurate patient information across hospital systems. The latter part of the shift supports ward reception and administration, including answering phones, managing patient movement, updating nursing staff, and handling general clerical duties.

You will act as a central point of contact for ward activity, responding calmly to changing priorities and supporting urgent situations. Accuracy, confidentiality, cultural safety and professionalism are essential. This role suits someone who is organised, resilient, solutions‑focused and confident speaking up for safety.

This is a full-time (1 FTE), permanent role working across a Morning and Afternoon roster from Monday – Friday, with occasional weekend shifts when required.

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a healthcare or clinical support setting
  • Experience liaising with clinical teams and supporting patient flow
  • Strong clerical, keyboard and data entry skills
  • Confident using Microsoft platforms and learning hospital systems
  • Ability to remain calm and organised in a busy, changeable environment
  • Strong problem‑solving skills, initiative and attention to detail
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Understanding of patients’ dietary requirements
  • Flexible to work rostered shifts, with the ability to support the team on weekends when required
