Mō te tūraka mahi | About the role 

The Village Manager provides leadership and overall management to our residents and kaimahi (staff) at Te Pā Tauira, Otago Polytechnic’s Student Village. 

Your primary responsibilities will be to effectively manage the accommodation day-to-day operations ensuring compliance to the NZ Pastoral Care Code of Practice while exceeding our residents stays. You will recommend strategies and processes to further improve our services.

You will lead a small team to continually develop and grow professionally where everyone assists in the day-to-day running of Te Pā Tauira.

As our Student Village is 24/7, the Village Manager will be required to be onsite on some evenings and weekends. They will also be part of a shared after hours point of escalation roster.

You will have leadership experience in a similar role, strong organisational skills, and experience in managing budgets. You will hold a relevant qualification or equivalent experience in hospitality, youth development, administration, education or events.

You will be a highly motivated team player who is outcomes focussed, has proven analytical and problem-solving abilities who is able to effectively prioritise and execute tasks to a high standard. You will have outstanding relationship-building skills which are customer-centred and an empathy for young adults.

Our preferred candidate will be a community and relationship orientated person with a high level of empathy and interest in building a community of people that feel a sense of belonging. 

An understanding of cultural diversity and the ability to work with a variety of customers is preferred along with familiarity of tertiary education and the Tertiary and International Learners Code of Practice. The successful applicant will need to undergo a police check.
