We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse with a passion for older person's health to become our next Totara Unit Nurse Manager at our St Andrews Home and Hospital in Dunedin.   


About the Role

We operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses, Care Workers and support staff working to provide the greatest level of care to our residents. Reporting to the Manager of St Andrews, you would be one of three Unit Nurse Managers working at St Andrews and be an integral member of the Management Team.

This full-time, permanent position is an exciting opportunity to use your management and clinical skills, to lead and develop the nursing and care teams in a busy dynamic environment. 

 Responsibilities include:

  • Providing sound clinical leadership to nursing and caring staff 
  • Promoting practice standards and behavior consistent with professional and legislative standards
  • Demonstrating sound people management, organizational and planning skills. 
  • Providing and supporting others in providing comprehensive nursing assessment to develop, deliver and evaluate a plan of care that supports the lives and wellbeing of older people living in this residential setting.

About you

The ideal applicant will have:

  • Sounds clinical knowledge and skill
  • Post graduate experience is essential and experience in an aged care environment is an advantage
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including relationship and advocacy skills
  • Time management skills and the ability to manage complex and competing priorities effectively
  • Empathy, compassion, and patience 
  • The ability to work well within and lead a team
  • Excellent organisation and attention to detail 
  • A current annual practicing certificate and be a NZ Registered Nurse
  • Good computer skills
  • Reasonable fitness and strength
  • Experience in care of older people is preferred, but not essential
  • If you are trained in use of the InterRAI assessment or assessing Careerforce papers, this would be an advantage. However, training would be provided.
