Southern Cross Hospital Rotorua is a modern surgical hospital serving the local community and the greater Bay of Plenty region. The hospital is characterised by a friendly, professional surgical nursing team, and offers credentialled medical practitioners and their patients access to superb facilities.

These include three advanced theatres, 22 inpatient beds in comfortable, well-equipped rooms, and a purpose-built day stay facilities. Surgical specialities include Orthopaedic and General surgery, Urology, Otolaryngology, Gastroenterology, and Gynaecological surgery.

Join Southern Cross Rotorua Hospital as our Theatre Coordinator (Orthopaedics) and play a key role in delivering high-quality elective surgical services. This is an opportunity to combine your advanced orthopaedic clinical expertise with leadership, theatre coordination and quality improvement responsibilities in a supportive and progressive environment.

Working closely with theatre and clinical teams, you will coordinate orthopaedic theatre lists, surgical bookings and daily operations to ensure the smooth delivery of elective surgical services. You'll optimise patient flow, support resource planning and maintain effective communication between surgeons, anaesthetists and multidisciplinary teams.

As a senior member of the team, you will provide leadership and guidance to theatre staff, foster strong stakeholder relationships and contribute to quality improvement initiatives that enhance patient care and operational performance. While the role has a strong coordination focus, you will also remain connected to clinical practice and provide support within the operating theatre when required.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

  • Extensive orthopaedic theatre experience, including knowledge of procedures, instrumentation and theatre workflows
  • Relevant postgraduate qualification in perioperative nursing, clinical practice, health leadership or a related field
  • Expert PDRP (Level 4) or working towards achieving this level
  • Proven ability to coordinate theatre lists, surgical bookings and workflow in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated leadership capability, with experience supporting teams and service delivery
  • Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Ability to build strong relationships with surgeons, specialists and multidisciplinary teams
  • Demonstrated involvement in quality improvement, patient safety, service improvement or clinical governance initiatives
  • Previous coordination or leadership experience within a theatre setting is desirable
