About us

Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga is a Ngāti Kahungunu mandated, kaupapa Māori values-based health and social services organisation providing services to our community along the East Coast of the North Island. Our health, social, education and community development teams have been working successfully for whanau for over 36 years.

About the role 

The role of Tenancy Officer will oversee a portfolio of tenancies that may include Transitional Housing and Motels, temporary tenancies owned or leased by Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga, and long-term tenancies. 

You will carry out property inspections, manage lease documentation, monitor tenant financial payments, manage turnover, and organize maintenance and repair work when required and make sure the properties are up to standard.  

You will manage all tenancy responsibilities with the tenant while also having a social focus of sustaining tenancies and ensuring tenant wellbeing.  You will work in collaboration with our housing navigation teams to achieve the goal of long-term, sustainable housing for whānau. 

We are looking for supportive and empathic kaimahi that have excellent community networks, an understanding of whanaungatanga, and the ability to connect and communicate effectively with whānau.

Ideal applicants will demonstrate:

  • Experience in managing a portfolio of tenancies in the community or private sector
  • Familiarity with Housing NZ and Ministry of Social Development processes
  • Great people skills and ability to build rapport with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to work calm under pressure and manage difficult client interactions
  • Excellent time-management and organisational skills
  • Excellent report writing and documentation skills
  • Proficient in Te Reo and tikanga practices (and/or open to learning)
  • Effective time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines 
  • A current clean, full driver license

This role is a permanent, full time position, Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.00pm.
