BestStart Berryfields Crossing is looking for a passionate and dedicated Teacher in Training to join our energetic, tight-knit team. Located in the growing Berryfields suburb, close to restaurants and the movie theatre, our centre is all about building strong relationships and supporting tamariki and their whānau.

About the Role

If you are currently enrolled in a Level 7 ECE programme (Bachelor or Graduate Diploma) and have a passion for teaching young children, we want to hear from you!

  • Permanent position: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday 
  • Room: Wai-iti (Toddlers) – ages 18 months to 2.5 years 
  • Focus: Independence, emotional regulation, confidence, and early learning exploration 
  • Tamariki per room: Maximum of 16, ensuring personalised attention and care 
  • Collaboration: Share outdoor space with Pounamu room to nurture tuakana-teina (older-younger peer) relationships

Wai-iti is named after the river flowing through Richmond/Tasman to Te Tai-o-Aorere (Tasman Sea), reflecting our connection to the local environment and community.

Role Requirements

We’re looking for someone who is committed to making a difference in the lives of young learners. You will:

  • Be enrolled in a Level 7 ECE Bachelor or Graduate Diploma 
  • Have a good understanding of child-led curriculum and planning 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of current ECE Regulations, Te Whāriki, and compliance 
  • Show a strong commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi in your pedagogical practice 
  • Be passionate about teaching and delivering high-quality learning experiences
