At BestStart, we’re leaders in the early childhood sector, we make a difference, and we love what we do. We provide high-quality early education and award-winning childcare for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. BestStart Berryfields Crossing is seeking a passionate and dedicated Teacher in Training to join our energetic and tight-knit team. Our focus is to provide quality education to the children in our community.  

The doors to BestStart Berryfields Crossing opened in March 2023 and our classrooms have been filling with tāmariki. As a new centre, we have a strong focus on building relationships with tāmariki and whānau and supporting them in finding their sense of belonging. We have four state of the art classrooms, and two spacious outdoor environment, designed with childrens age and development in mind. 

 Our centre vision is Ma te huruhuru ke rere te manu - Adorn the bird with feathers so it may soar.  

About the Role:  

If you have a passion for teaching young children and are currently enrolled to study in a level 7 ECE programme (ECE Bachelor or Graduate Diploma), we want to hear from you. 

This position is based with our eldest tamariki in our Kōtuku Room,  4+ years old. Kōtuku is the White Heron which is a known symbol in the Nelson-Tasman region. The Kōtuku represents leadership which is something that is strived towards in the Kōtuku classroom. For BestStart Berryfields Crossing, Kōtuku is the room that is the final learning space before the tamaiti takes flight and affirming them as an individual before the next step in their learning journey - school. 

This is a permanent position working 30 hours per week across 4 days. You will need to be flexible to do some opening and some closing shifts.

Role requirements:  

Commit to making a difference in the lives of young learners with a team dedicated to excellence. We are looking for the following:  

  • Enrolment into a level 7 ECE Bachelor or Graduate Diploma course  
  • Good understanding of child-led curriculum, planning and extending on our children's learning  
  • Demonstrate good knowledge of the current ECE Regulations, Te Whariki and hold compliance in a high regard  
  • A strong commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi through pedagogical practices  
  • Passion and commitment for teaching and learning with a focus on delivering quality  
  • Experience working with children under 5 years old
