An exciting opportunity has become available at BestStart Riccarton as one of our valued Teachers in Training steps into a qualified role. We are now looking for a passionate and dedicated Teacher in Training (Year 1 or 2) to join our energetic and close-knit team.

Located in the heart of Riccarton, our centre is strongly connected to the local community. We enjoy regular excursions, allowing our tamariki to explore and learn beyond the centre environment.

We are fortunate to operate across two buildings, offering beautiful, spacious outdoor areas that encourage curiosity, exploration, and meaningful learning experiences. About the Role

This is a permanent position, working 35–40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, alongside our 2–3 year olds.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is currently enrolled in a Level 7 ECE Bachelor programme
  • Has a genuine passion for teaching young children
  • Demonstrates strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Brings enthusiasm, creativity, and a positive attitude to their practice
  • Works well as part of a collaborative team and contributes positively to the centre culture
  • Places children at the centre of everything they do

Role Requirements

We are seeking someone who is committed to making a positive difference in the lives of young learners and demonstrates:

  • Enrolment in a Level 7 ECE Bachelor course
  • Understanding of child-led learning and curriculum planning
  • Knowledge of Te Whāriki and current ECE regulations
  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi in practice
  • Passion for delivering quality teaching and learning experiences
