Teacher-in-Training (BestStart Naenae)
BestStart Naenae is seeking a passionate and dedicated Teacher in Training to join our energetic and experienced team in the preschool room, supporting our 4–5 year olds as they prepare for the next step in their learning journey.
Our centre is a welcoming and inclusive space where tamariki, whānau, and kaiako thrive together. With strong links to the local school and community, our curriculum is grounded in local pūrakau (stories) and guided by Te Whare Tapa Whā, ensuring a holistic approach to learning and wellbeing.
About the Role
As a Teacher in Training, you’ll work alongside our talented Kaiako, gaining valuable hands-on experience while studying towards your Level 7 ECE qualification (Bachelor or Graduate Diploma). This is a permanent position, 30 hours per week, over 4 or 5 days, in our tuakana (4–5 years) classroom.
You’ll support tamariki as they build independence, develop social skills, and grow confidence in preparation for school, while also learning and developing your own teaching practice.

Role Requirements
- Must be enrolled in a Level 7 ECE Bachelor or Graduate Diploma
- Passionate about working with preschoolers (4–5 years) and preparing them for school
- Understanding of child-led learning and commitment to Te Whāriki
- Willingness to uphold Te Tiriti o Waitangi in practice
- Enthusiasm, energy, and a commitment to providing quality education
