BestStart Merivale is looking for a passionate and committed Teacher in Training to join our friendly, collaborative team. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a small, supportive centre while developing your teaching skills across both rooms. We offer flexibility in how your hours are worked across the week.

About the Role

  • Fixed-Term, Part-Time, 23 hours perweek over 3 days
  • 6-month parental leave cover

This fixed-term position is ideal for someone currently enrolled in a Level 7 ECE qualification (Bachelor of Teaching or Graduate Diploma). You will work 23 hours per week across 3 days, contributing to a strong, well-established team located close to public transport and Merivale shops.

Our centre has a warm, welcoming atmosphere with a tight-knit team that values collaboration and continuous learning. You will have the opportunity to work across both rooms, gaining experience with different age groups and learning styles.

We’re looking for a team player with a passion for teaching and learning who can contribute to our warm and professional environment. Ideal candidates will have:

  • Enrolment in a Level 7 ECE qualification (Bachelor or Graduate Diploma)
  • A good understanding of child-led curriculum and planning
  • Knowledge of current ECE regulations, Te Whāriki, and high compliance standards
  • A strong commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi in daily practice
  • Enthusiasm and a commitment to delivering high-quality education
