We invite applications to join the midwifery team at Otago Polytechnic in liaison roles to provide wrap around care and academic support to Māori and Pasfika midwifery tauira based in the Otago Polytechnic satellite regions or from our Dunedin Campus.
These roles can be based anywhere in New Zealand and part-time FTE is negotiable.

Mō te tūraka mahi | About the roles
Te Ara ō Hine -Tapu Ora is a national programme funded by the Ministry of Health. The purpose of this programme is to recruit, retain and graduate significantly more Māori & Pasifika midwifery tauira across Aotearoa New Zealand through the provision of a supportive wrap around service of pastoral, academic and financial support.
Roles and Responsibilities of School of Midwifery Te Ara ō Hine -Tapu Ora liaison role/s:
• to co-ordinate and provide a supportive wrap around service for midwifery tauira. This includes both pastoral and providing or accessing academic support
• to facilitate a network of connection and support for midwifery tauira, including development of Māori Kaiwhakawhanau/Tauira Māori support (Tukana/Teina model) and including development of Pasifika support based on the Pasifika aunties roles
• support peer mentors
• to work to recruit more Māori and Pasifika tauira into Midwifery
• work with Te Ara ō Hine -Tapu Ora National co-ordinators
• to contribute to the development of Te Tiriti honouring curriculum, teaching and learning and assessments in the School of Midwifery
• coordinate regular hui/fono in satellite regions and attend national hui/fono with National co-ordinators and others.
These roles are underpinned by kaupapa Māori principles and adopt a holistic view to support the growth and development of tauira.
We have 0.8 FTE available which can be split depending on the needs of the applicants and learner requirements.

Key to your success in this role will be your whanau centred approach and understanding and commitment to te ao Māori and mātauranga Māori.
You will be able to demonstrate the following:
· Passionate about midwifery and the opportunities to improve practice or contribute to midwifery through education
· Sound knowledge of te reo māori me ngā tikanga māori and/or existing Pasifika language competency
· Have connections with community and midwifery networks
· Experienced in the provision of pastoral care to tauira
· Be an effective Te Tiriti o Waitangi partner by supporting the values and tikaka of mana whenua throughout your mahi
· Good computer literacy and ability to use full suite of Microsoft products (particularly Word, Excel and SharePoint/Teams).
