Mō Tēnei Tūranga Mahi | About the Role

The Tauawhi Kura Toihoukura is a permanent part time 0.6 FTE role to support the day-to-day operations of Toihoukura, School of Māori Visual Arts. This role ensures the smooth functioning of kura spaces, gallery, exhibitions, events, and facilities, fostering kaupapa Māori and enhancing the ākonga experience.

The appointing salary for this role will be between $64,717 and $80,896 (Full Time Equivalent), dependent on skills and experience.

This position is based at our Tairāwhiti Campus, reporting to the Head of School, IDEA School and Toihoukura, and will be responsible for:

  • Managing gallery operations, exhibitions, and art handling.
  • Coordinating wānanga and supporting teaching integration.
  • Maintaining resources, inventory, and compliance with health and safety.
  • Providing manaakitanga to manuhiri and supporting community engagement.
  • Documenting events and exhibitions for archival and marketing purposes.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Facilities or gallery management experience in a cultural or toi Māori environment (essential).
  • Previous experience working in Toi Māori and/or mātauranga Māori settings (essential).
  • Strong communication, organisation, and administration skills (essential).
  • Experience planning and coordinating exhibitions, events, and wānanga (essential).
  • Knowledge of kaupapa Māori and tikanga Māori (essential).
  • Sound computer literacy and understanding of safe work practices.
  • Desirable: Relevant Toi Māori qualification, OSH training, First Aid Certificate.
