Mō Tēnei Tūranga Mahi | About the Role

The Systems Engineer position is a full‑time, permanent role, and we are seeking a highly skilled Systems Engineer to provide technical leadership and support across EIT enterprise information systems. This role exists to ensure our systems remain secure, reliable, and aligned with the needs of our people, ākonga, and wider organisation. You’ll support business continuity, drive system improvements, and act as a technical expert across multiple platforms while engaging collaboratively with teams across the institute.

The appointing salary for this role will be negotiable, depending on skills and experience.

The Systems Engineer is based in our Digital team, reporting to the Systems Delivery Team Leader, and will be responsible for:

  • Providing high‑level system support, maintenance, and performance monitoring.
  • Ensuring business continuity and managing incidents, problems, and system changes.
  • Leading system development initiatives, analysis, documentation, and implementation of new technologies.
  • Providing technical leadership, mentoring, and cross‑training across the IT Services team.
  • Contributing to a positive and collaborative team culture.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Strong systems engineering expertise across Windows, Microsoft server environments, networking, and/or enterprise compute infrastructure.
  • Experience with SQL, databases, Linux, Apple environments, and security principles.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical matters in plain language.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and project management abilities.
  • A commitment to continuous learning, relationship building, and supporting a positive team culture.
