Christchurch Casino is seeking a passionate, professional and experienced System/Cloud Engineer to join our IT team and contribute to the successful delivery of our organisation’s IT strategy and operational goals.

About the role

Reporting to the IT Operations Manager, you will be responsible for supporting, building and optimising reliable cloud environments and on-premises infrastructure. A key focus of the role will be monitoring performance, maximising resource utilisation, improving efficiency and helping to minimise operational costs.

You will also act as a key contact for cloud service providers, helping ensure smooth service delivery, strong operational performance and effective management of service level expectations.

What you’ll bring

To succeed in this role, you will bring strong technical capability, sound judgement and a proactive approach to problem solving. You will be comfortable working independently, collaborating with others, documenting your work clearly, and identifying practical ways technology can improve service delivery.

Experience and qualifications

  • Five or more years of hands-on experience working in IT, ideally across cloud, infrastructure and systems environments.
  • Proven experience automating manual processes using PowerShell, Bash or other scripting languages.
  • Proficiency in the use of Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Proven experience administering Microsoft Entra ID and Microsoft 365 services in a production environment. Knowledge of virtualisation technologies including VMware and Hyper-V.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within an open-plan office environment.
  • A willingness to continue learning and upskilling where required.
  • Experience with AI technologies, automation platforms or AI-assisted operational tooling, with the ability to identify practical use cases that improve efficiency and service delivery.
  • A sound understanding of cybersecurity best practice, including identity and access management, secure administration, patching, monitoring and risk reduction across cloud and on-premises environments.

Working environment

You will be joining a team that provides operational IT support across the business, including during the Casino’s peak operating periods. Some flexibility with hours of work would therefore be preferred.

Licensing requirements

This is a licensed position within Christchurch Casino and requires a Certificate of Approval issued by the Department of Internal Affairs. Applicants must be at least 20 years of age, have a clean police record, and be a New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or hold a current New Zealand open work visa with at least 12 months remaining.
