About the Role 

You will be supporting Will in his new home based in Somerfield, Will has lived independently in his local community for many years and is a well known character in his home town. Will enjoys time in the fresh air and trips to local cafes. At home, he loves music and helping out around the home, especially cooking and preparing meals. 

Due to the early onset of dementia Will is now requiring full time support with the help of Hohepa, we are looking for 6 people to build a caring, reliable, reassuring environment for him to minimise his confusion and associated distress. You will be committed to building a trusting relationship with him and able to provide calm reassurance when he is disorientated. You will have proven ability to work as a member of a small collaborative team to provide consistent support that is responsive to change, as Will’s condition will continue to decline.  

In this role you will be supported by a manager, practice team and therapists, as appropriate, to deliver a therapeutic support plan.  You will be energetic, empathetic and able to work alongside Will  focussing on creating a life of rich and diverse experiences while being able to read situations, problem solve and apply boundaries or offer space.  You will have the confidence to support personal cares, cooking, medication administration, and household tasks. You will be passionate about supporting and extending people’s ability to access and be part of their wider community. If you are looking for a new challenge this could be the opportunity for you.  

This position's salary scale is set by pay equity and dependant on qualification level, pays between $23.15 and $28.25 per hour.

Position 1

Sunday to Tuesday 7am to 3pm

Total Hours per fortnight:  48

Position 2

Sunday to Tuesday 3pm to 11pm

Total Hours per fortnight:  48 

Position 3

Sunday to Tuesday 11pm to 7am

Total Hours per fortnight:  48 

About You 

Your aroha and approach is what really matters at Hōhepa – previous experience is not a prerequisite because we provide on-the-job training. You will either be an experienced Support Worker looking for a change or you are simply looking for a career where your enthusiasm and passion for helping others will make a real difference in people’s lives. To thrive in a Support Worker role at Hōhepa you will be:
