Mō te tūranga | About the Role
Mana House is a new home complex based in Somerfield that Mike lives in a unit on his own, Mike is looking for people to support him who shares his passion for rugby, cricket and technology and who will enjoy his infectious sense of humour! Mike has a big family who he loves very much and spends as much time with as possible as well attending church is an important part of his life.
Mike enjoys contributing to meal preparation and jobs around the home as well as going to the movies and getting out and about. Mike also loves rhythm and routine around his days and would need his support worker who can support him maintaining and slowly exploring it according to his areas of interests. Mike can get worried and stressed so would like his support worker to be patient, confident, self-assured, and have a sense of humour to provide him reassurance and think of alternative solutions.
Mike is nonverbal however is very clear communicating his needs using different gestures, Makaton signs and pointing to objects and using a talklink tablet. Mike needs partial to full support with personal cares tasks so would like the support person to have some prior experience or openness to support him with these tasks.
In this role you will provide a calm, predictable environment responsive to Mike's choices.
You will be comfortable supporting Mike with all aspects of his life, adapting to promote his independence while ensuring his health and wellbeing.
This position's salary scale is set by pay equity and dependant on qualification level, pays between $23.15 and $28.25 per hour.
