About the Role 

Ahuru House is located in the heart of Aidenfield. You will have the opportunity to work closely with a young man who is at the threshold of adulthood. As he navigates this exciting phase, your role will be pivotal in building trust and encouraging him to embrace a variety of activities that enrich his life. These include but are not limited to Learn Active programs, community outings, and Art for Life sessions. His interests span across music, dancing, and crafting, and he has a cherished companion in his soft toy penguin, Pingu, who accompanies him on his adventures!

The young man you will support has specific needs that require a tailored approach. Consistent encouragement to adhere to his activity schedule is crucial, as is the understanding that at times, he may need physical space to process his thoughts and emotions. During moments of anxiety, he may engage in self-talk or prefer solitude in his room. Your sensitivity to these situations will be key in providing the right balance of support and independence.

In this role you will be energetic, empathetic and able to work alongside this person focussing on creating a life of rich and diverse experiences while being able to read situations, problem solve and apply boundaries or offer space.  Daily tasks include supporting with daily routines while encouraging independence to develop skills and personal growth. You will have the confidence to support personal cares, cooking, medication administration, and household tasks. You will be passionate about supporting and extending people’s ability to access and be part of their wider community. If you are looking for a new challenge this could be the opportunity for you.  

This position's salary scale is set by pay equity and dependant on qualification level, pays between $23.15 and $28.25 per hour.   

This role is on a Fixed Term Basis and will commence in March 2024 and end in August 2024

Rostered hours: 

  • Monday to Friday - 9am to 3pm 

Total Hours per fortnight: 60

About You
