Hōhepa Hawke’s Bay supports people with intellectual disabilities to live full lives. We are a special character community based on the work of Dr Rudolf Steiner. We seek people with patience, maturity and integrity for Support Worker roles in our service for elderly people. No experience is required – full training is provided.

You will be responsible for supporting people in their daily living and social requirements, encouraging them to maintain their independence and make decisions for themselves. The role includes supporting people with personal hygiene; cooking and meal preparation; transportation; cleaning; administering medication (once assessed as competent); exercise and physical assistance; conversation and companionship.

To be successful in this role you will:

· Have passion for the wellbeing of older people; demonstrate respect, empathy and compassion; have great interpersonal skills and a sense of humour!

· Have good communication skills, be able to communicate clearly and appropriately with a range of people, and be able to maintain accurate records and progress notes.

· Be able to maximise independence, encourage choice and community inclusion.

· Be able and willing to assist people with personal cares and household tasks.

· Be trustworthy with high ethical standards, able to respect confidentiality and privacy.

· Be fit for the physical and emotional aspects of the role.

· Be willing to work within the mission, vision and values of Hōhepa.

Previous experience – for example support work, supporting elderly people, working with people with intellectual disabilities – would be advantageous but your attitude and approach is far more important.
