About the Role

As a Support Worker with SILC, you will be an authentic and community-minded advocate for the people we support. Your core responsibility is to assist individuals to gain as much independence as possible and to build a life rich with meaningful roles, real connections, and awesome experiences.

You will be part of a diverse and supportive team, focused on recognizing what matters to each individual and helping them to build a life around their interests. This involves:

  • Community Connection: Facilitating and supporting participation in the community through authentic, ongoing activities and helping to build natural connections and supports. If you're someone who enjoys activities like social outings, you'll thrive in helping people connect with their interests.
  • Support & Independence: Promoting independence in the home by assisting with personal cares, meal preparation, and household tasks.
  • Goal-Focused Work: Supporting people with their individual plans and goals, seeing the value, potential, and individuality of every person you support.
  • Complex Support: Confidently providing support in complex situations which may include experience or confidence and passion with non-verbal communication, Autism, epilepsy, or managing high diabetes.

We're Looking for Someone Who Is:

  • A natural relationship builder who is genuinely connected to the community.
  • Patient and calm, with a fun and positive sense of humour.
  • An excellent motivator with sound written and verbal communication skills.
  • Passionate about supporting people to live purposeful and fulfilling lives.
  • Someone with the energy and drive to engage clients in activities that make them happy.
  • Ideally you will have a Level 3 Certificate in Health & Wellbeing, but this is not essential as you will be supported to gain this qualification while you work.

Essential Requirements:

  • Be able to work across the week, with flexibility for day shifts and/or a roster which may include sleepovers.
  • Full New Zealand Driver License and competence to drive a range of company vehicles, including mobility vans.
  • Must be eligible to work in New Zealand and willing to meet police vetting requirements.

  • Competitive Pay: Pay rates (defined by Pay Equity) from $23.38 to $29.10 per hour (dependent on your qualifications) plus paid time for sleepover work.
