Our Kaupapa Manaaki Tāngata - Victim Support is a national organisation working to strengthen the mana and well-being of people affected by crime, traumatic events, and suicide in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Advocacy for the rights of victims will always be an essential part of our work with individuals, organisations, and  government agencies.

About the role | Mō te tūnga We are now seeking a passionate Support Worker based in Southland Police stations for a 0.5 FTE (20hrs per week).  As a Support Worker, you will provide a front-line service through the ownership and management of support services to victims of crimes and traumatic situations. You will be required to have excellent communication skills and be able to work as a member of a team.

  • Are you energetic with a passion for assisting people in your community?
  • Are you culturally sensitive and able to work with people from different ethnic groups?
  • Can you build effective working relationships with key stakeholders, enabling you to provide a quality service to family harm victims and their families?
  • Do you have experience in problem solving and delivering an outstanding service to clients under pressure?
  • Do you have an understanding of working with victims and their families as a result of Family Harm (including Family Violence)?
  • Do you have a full license and access to transport?
  • Are you able to work autonomously and as part of a team, yet also work independently and self-manage?  
  • Do you have knowledge and experience in working with people effected by Family Harm and are you able to recognise and respond to risk associated with Family Harm? 

A Social Services relevant qualification would be a significant advantage.  

Please note that: You will be required to undergo pre-employment vetting by the NZ Police. Applicants must have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa.

The salary for this full-time role is $70,838.25 per annum. Please note  that the job being advertised is a 0.5 FTE (part-time) position, and as  such, the pro rata rate for this role would be $35,419.13 per annum.
