Mō Tēnei Tūranga Mahi | About the Role

We are seeking a permanent, part time (0.5 FTE) Student Success Navigator who will play a key role in supporting Te Ara o Takitimu / Youth Guarantee students to successfully navigate their study journey. Working closely with Te Pae Hono, academic staff, and external support services, this role provides pastoral care, monitors student progress, and ensures learners are connected to the right support to achieve their goals.

The appointing salary for this role will be between $60,000 and $63,000, dependent on skills and experience.

The Student Success Navigator is based in Student Support Services at Taradale Campus, reporting to the Pouārahi ākonga – Student Support Services Manager and will be responsible for:

  • Provide pastoral support to Te Ara o Takitimu / Youth Guarantee students
  • Work closely with the Te Pae Hono team
  • Monitor and follow up on student attendance
  • Liaise with tutors and staff to manage absences
  • Build strong relationships to encourage student engagement
  • Track student progress including attendance, engagement, and achievement
  • Develop and support individual learning plans
  • Monitor and report on EFTS and budget-related metrics
  • Connect students with appropriate support services
  • Keep stakeholders informed of student progress and concerns
  • Maintain accurate student records and engagement data
  • Administer student support payments and funding streams
  • Support driver licensing programme tracking and reporting
  • Assist with planning, delivery, and evaluation of events
  • Contribute to team collaboration, training, and organisational processes

About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Experience supporting students, ideally within a tertiary or youth-focused environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport quickly
  • Well-developed organisational and administrative skills
  • Confidence working with Māori and Pasifika students, with an appreciation of Te Reo me ōna tikanga
  • Good digital literacy and the ability to use systems effectively
  • Knowledge of community-based support services and agencies
