Mō te tūraka mahi | About the role 

Otago Polytechnic’s Institute of Sport, Exercise and Health invite applications for a practitioner committed to the profession of Strength and Conditioning (S&C). This is an applied academic role for a visionary educator, and researcher.

This position has a specific emphasis on industry connections in the field of S&C and culturally inclusive practice.

This is a unique opportunity to join a School with a strong hands-on culture, an interdisciplinary research environment, and a clear commitment to addressing the critical challenges facing the S&C at both recreational and professional levels.

In this role you will:

  • lead and teach S&C papers at a postgraduate level, integrating contemporary and global perspectives
  • impart your knowledge and experience with our ākonga in an educational context
  • teach and contribute towards student attendance, course guide information, curriculum development, student results, moderation, progress reports and resource bookings
  • supervise postgraduate research and contribute to a growing research culture
  • collaborate across disciplines
  • engage with communities of practice, industry, and cultural partners.

Ko wai koe | About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • recent demonstrable applied experience in S&C in High Performance Sport,      preferably in both recreational and professional levels
  • post graduate qualification in an S&C related subject area
  • established local and national networks within the high-performance sport sector. International industry connections would be an advantage
  • engagement in current research in the field
  • teaching/coaching experience is desired.

Your commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi will be backed by demonstrable working experience in Te Ao Māori, Noho Marae prep, Te Hihiri. Experience in other Sports and Health Frameworks would be an advantage. You will have a desire to help ākonga learn and have strong whakawhanaungatanga skills. 

Through recognition, empowerment and inclusion, you will give greater acknowledgement to the unmet needs of Māori, Pasifika and disabled people and their whanau.

You will have demonstrable health and safety best practices and enjoy being part of a team who support each other. You will easily be able to build and maintain relationships and communicate well via email, phone and face-to-face.
