The joint venture ownership between Southern Cross Healthcare and Central Lakes Trust ensures leading clinical service delivery whilst maintaining a genuine focus to provide healthcare services closer to home for general population of Central Otago.

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

Ready to play a critical part in delivering exceptional patient care behind the scenes? We're looking for a Sterile Services Technician to join our passionate Theatre team at Southern Cross Central Lakes Hospital. In this role, you'll be an essential part of the surgical journey, ensuring our clinicians have safe, high-quality, and fully compliant instruments exactly when they need them.

As a Sterile Services Technician, you'll manage the full reprocessing cycle of reusable medical devices, from decontamination and inspection through to assembly, packaging, sterilisation, and distribution. Your expertise and attention to detail will help maintain the highest standards of patient safety and support excellent clinical outcomes.

You'll operate specialised sterilisation equipment, monitor and verify sterilisation processes, maintain accurate documentation, and assist with equipment repairs and recall procedures when required. You'll be working closely with a supportive team of professionals who are committed to quality, collaboration, and continuous improvement. We're looking for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, takes pride in getting the details right, and understands the important role sterile services play in the overall patient experience. 

This is a full-time, permanent position based at Southern Cross Central Lakes Hospital in Queenstown. 

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

  • Proven experience working within a Sterile Services or Sterilising Department environment
  • Sound knowledge of surgical instrumentation and medical device reprocessing practices
  • An understanding of infection prevention and control principles, quality assurance requirements, and documentation standards 
  • Knowledge of AS 5369 best practice standards, or a willingness to further develop your expertise 
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to thrive in a busy clinical setting 
  • A positive, team-focused approach with strong communication skills 
  • Solid computer literacy, including experience with MS Windows-based systems 
  • NZ Certificate in Sterilisation Level 4 (or equivalent) is preferred but not essential
