Southern Cross Hamilton Hospital is a well-equipped private surgical hospital based in central Hamilton, proudly providing a wide range of surgical specialties to the wider Waikato community for many years. Our hospital has eight fully equipped operating theatres, 43 inpatient beds (including four high-dependency unit beds), and a purpose-built Day Surgery Unit. We offer a range of specialties, including but not limited to, orthopaedics, gynaecology, ophthalmology, neurosurgery, spine, and general surgery specialties. 

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

Ready to make a real impact behind the scenes of patient care? Join our Hamilton Theatre team as a Sterile Services Technician and play a critical role in ensuring every surgical procedure is supported by safe, high-quality instrumentation. In this hands-on role, you’ll be involved in the full sterilisation lifecycle, from decontamination and careful inspection through to assembly, packing, sterilisation, and distribution. Your precision and commitment to excellence will directly support positive patient outcomes, ensuring every instrument meets the highest safety and quality standards.

You’ll work with modern sterilising equipment, monitor and verify processes, and contribute to a culture focused on continuous improvement and best practice. Just as importantly, you’ll be part of a collaborative and supportive team where your expertise is valued, your ideas are welcomed, and your professional growth is encouraged. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who thrives on accuracy, enjoys working in a fast-paced clinical environment, and takes pride in knowing their work truly matters, every tray, every time. 

There is also the opportunity to step into a leadership component for the right candidate who is keen to support team development and help drive best practice. This is a part-time (0.8 FTE / 32 hours per week), permanent position based at Southern Cross Hamilton Hospital. 

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

  • NZ Certificate in Sterilisation Level 4 (or equivalent) is essential
  • Proven experience in a Sterile Services or Central Sterilising Department
  • Previous leadership experience or an interest in developing leadership capability is highly desirable
  • Strong understanding of reusable medical device reprocessing, including cleaning, inspection, assembly, and sterilisation
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and control principles, quality systems, and documentation standards
  • Confidence operating sterilisation and reprocessing equipment
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in a busy environment
  • A proactive team player with strong communication skills and a positive, can-do attitude
  • Competent computer skills, particularly in MS Windows-based systems
  • Familiarity with AS 5369:2023 (or willingness to develop expertise)
