Family Works is one of the largest NGOs providing integrated social services for the whole community. Family Works provides a range of services to families and communities including needs assessments, social work, counselling and therapy and a range of life-skills and parenting support.

Social Workers in Schools is an early intervention and preventative social work service based in the school environment.  We are looking for a social worker with experience and interest in working with a diverse range of cultures.   A key part of the role requires experience and skills in developing group work and facilitating a range of needs based preventative programmes. 

Mō te tūranga  - About the role 

This is a full-time role, 40 hours per week, where you will have the opportunity to work in two locations in Porirua. Which days you work at each location are entirely up to you, so you have some autonomy to meet the needs of the schools and their tamariki/rangatahi.

You will be based in the schools for a large portion of the role and will work closely with the Principal to ensure that all tamariki/rangatahi are safe, happy and healthy. 

You will be:

  • A qualified and experienced Social Worker (SWRB registered or eligible for registration)
  • Have experience working one on one with children and passionate about working with children in schools
  • Familiar with working in culturally diverse environments and an understanding of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Proactive and have good time management and computer skills
  • A self starter who can work independently
  • Competent with demonstrating and implementing a range of social work practices e.g. strengths based, solution focused and goal oriented
  • A strong networker with community stake holders and enjoy developing new professional networks for your client group
  • Familiar with the Porirua community
  • Motivated by professional supervision
  • Currently holding a NZ driver’s license and have a reliable vehicle

You will be a passionate, energetic person with the ability to connect to children and their families. 

You will be knowledgeable, organized and have excellent communication skills.

Your approach to your work will be with kindness, logic and above all, the drive to do right by the child.
