About the Role

This newly-created role will be dedicated to working on a new and exciting collaborative partnership between PSC Family Works and Lower Hutt Oranga Tamariki Team. The project will be supporting our most vulnerable young people in the Hutt community You will responsible for a small caseload and  work intensively alongside whanau, other agencies and the key OT social worker. creatively providing support and interventions to help rangatahi remain safe , stable connected and engaged.

This is a fixed-term opportunity for twelve months. The role is 40 hours per week, based in  Upper Hutt Family Works Centre but also spending time based in the Lower Hutt Oranga Tamariki Team.

About You

You will be an empathetic person with a passion for helping children and whanau. Your approach to your work will be with kindness, logic and above all, the drive to do right by the child.

You must have previous experience working with  young people and have good understanding of care and protection issues.  You need to be skilled and able to understand and connect with rangatahi who identify as Maori 

You will also be:

  • a qualified and experienced Social Worker or Youth Worker 
  • familiar with working in culturally diverse environments
  • proactive and have good time management and computer skills
  • a self starter who can work independently
  • competent with demonstrating and implementing a range of social work  / youth work practices e.g. strengths based, solution focused and goal oriented
  • a strong networker with community stake holders and enjoy developing new professional networks for your client group
  • ability and experience in working  closely with other agencies and professions.

Family Works is one of the largest NGOs providing integrated social services for the whole community. Family Works provides a range of services to families and communities including needs assessments, social work, counselling and therapy and a range of life-skills and parenting courses.

Our Social Workers are the key in ensuring we enable, care for and support Kiwis around the country.
