Tūturu is a uniquely Aotearoa approach that aims to strengthen relationships between schools and health services, so that students can learn, be well, and be prepared for a modern world. Tūturu uses the expertise of the education and health sectors to explore complex issues. It starts with a focus on alcohol and other drugs to help schools move from a punitive to a pastoral approach.  

About the role

Based in Manukau, an exciting senior full-time position has become available in Odyssey’s Tūturu team. We are looking for someone who is passionate about youth wellbeing and education to support schools across the Auckland region by utilising youth services, health providers, and whānau. You will be part of a lively team of regional and national Tūturu leads and will also have the Tūturu Facilitator – Pacific Focus reporting to you.

In this role, you will:

  • Work with secondary schools in Auckland using a Tūturu approach, while building and maintaining strong, respectful relationships with new and existing schools.
  • Work with the New Zealand Drug Foundation (NZDF) to plan and implement support and mentoring for Tūturu kaimahi.
  • Strengthen relationships between education and alcohol and other drug (AOD) youth providers.
  • Contribute to the development of Tūturu and Tūturu networks.
  • Support the Tūturu facilitator to achieve positive outcomes for students using the Tūturu approach. 

Ideally, you will have:

  • An understanding of and interest in Tūturu/whole school approach.
  • At least two to three years’ relevant work experience gained in a public health, community development, educational and/or other relevant health setting.
  • A relevant (level 7) qualification e.g. Bachelor’s in Education, Health Science, Social Work, Addictions.
  • Experience or knowledge of education, youth mental health and/or addiction sector.
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective relationships and networks with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • The ability to work both autonomously and within a team.
  • The ability to build and maintain networks.
  • Knowledge of the customs and culture of Pacific peoples.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and inequities experienced by Māori in health/education.
  • A full, clean driver’s licence.
  • Previous experience facilitating presentations, workshops and trainings is desirable. 
  • Knowledge of te reo and/or tikanga Māori is desirable.
