This is an opportunity for an experienced systems engineer who combines deep technical expertise with genuine influence. Grand Casino is entering its next phase of technology maturity, with programmes spanning infrastructure modernisation, cyber security, identity, networks, core platforms, data and integration. You will help shape these services while keeping a critical, always-on environment dependable.
The opportunity
Reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer, you will be the senior technical owner for Grand Casino's infrastructure and operational technology services. The role is broad and practical: you will operate key platforms, lead technical improvements, strengthen engineering and service-management disciplines, and work with specialist partners where they add value.
You will join at an exciting point in the Casino's technology journey, with strong executive support for improving resilience, security and operational maturity, and a significant pipeline of infrastructure, cyber and platform work. This is a chance to establish sound standards, improve automation and monitoring, build reliable operational knowledge, and leave a lasting professional imprint.
What you will own
· Day-to-day operation and improvement of server, virtualisation, storage, backup, recovery, network, identity, endpoint and cloud services.
· Technical leadership for cyber security controls across infrastructure, identity, endpoint and network domains.
· Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID, including privileged access, authentication controls and auditable joiner/mover/leaver processes.
· Monitoring, patching, capacity, configuration standards, certificate and licence management, backup assurance and disaster-recovery readiness.
· Technical incident escalation, root-cause analysis, problem management and safe, tested change implementation.
· Operational documentation, runbooks, system diagrams and knowledge transfer that make services repeatable and supportable.
· Technical relationships with infrastructure, security and application vendors, including escalation, delivery assurance and solution challenge.
· Technical contribution to infrastructure, cyber, platform and integration projects alongside the CIO and Project Manager/Functional Analyst.
What you will bring
· Around eight or more years of systems engineering, infrastructure or senior operational technology experience, including responsibility for production environments.
· Strong hands-on capability across Windows Server, virtualisation, networking, firewalls, storage, backup and recovery.
· Practical expertise with Active Directory, Entra ID and the Microsoft cloud, security and endpoint ecosystem.
· Experience implementing and operating cyber controls, managing vulnerabilities and supporting audit, compliance or assurance activity.
· A disciplined approach to incident, problem and change management, supported by clear documentation and evidence.
· The judgement to know what should be owned internally, what should be automated and when specialist vendor support is appropriate.
· Clear communication, calm troubleshooting and the confidence to provide evidence-based technical advice to senior stakeholders.
The person we are looking for
You're a self-starting engineer taking ownership through to resolution. You are curious about how systems work, equally committed to doing things in a controlled, supportable and secure way. You document as you go, share knowledge, challenge constructively remaining composed under pressure. You will be comfortable moving between strategic technical conversations and hands-on diagnosis in the same day.
Why Grand Casino?
· A rare opportunity to work across a varied technology estate in a distinctive, highly regulated gaming and hospitality business.
· Direct access to decision-makers and the ability to materially influence architecture, standards, tools and operating practices.
· A strong programme of modernisation and cyber-maturity work, with scope to turn good engineering ideas into practical outcomes.
· A close-knit Dunedin team where technical ownership, sound judgement and contribution are valued.
Qualifications and requirements
· A relevant degree, equivalent professional experience, or a combination of both; current technical or security certifications are desirable.
· Experience in gaming, financial services, healthcare, government or another regulated environment would be advantageous.
· A current full New Zealand driver licence.
· Ability to participate in an agreed after-hours support and incident-response roster.
· Appointment will be subject to the regulatory and probity requirements of the role, including eligibility to obtain and maintain the required Department of Internal Affairs Certificate of Approval.
