Calder Stewart Construction is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor with NZ commercial construction experience.

About the Job 

Due to business growth and a Senior Quantity Surveyor retiring, our Invercargill Office is looking for a highly articulate and self-motivated QS to join our Southland construction team.  This person can be based in Dunedin, however, you will need to stay overnight at least once a week in Invercargill so that two full days can be completed in the local office.  You will be comfortable in a client-facing role and be committed to working on projects from the initial estimate through to building completion.  Liaising with our internal divisions, Project Managers, Site and Commercial teams, you will have opportunities to work on many diverse construction projects throughout Otago and Southland and across New Zealand. 

Skills You Will Need 

Being an integral member of our construction team, the role will see you taking the lead with tendering activities, preparing budget estimates, managing costs throughout the construction, and assisting with presentations to our clients.  Upon contract award, your duties will include preparing external claims, processing variations, subcontractor account management, contract administration, final account preparation, reporting, and cost reconciliation.  You will be meticulous by nature and will competently produce accurate pricing information and documentation within the required timeframes. 

We are looking for someone with a Quantity Surveying qualification that has: 

• at least 5 years’ experience in a similar role or as a Quantity Surveyor Consultant 
• relevant work experience in a pricing office or in the Contract Administration/Planning/Pricing/estimating function within the commercial building industry 
• the ability to work effectively within a team, to work to deadlines and under pressure 
• demonstrated attention to detail, is thorough, passionate, self-motivated, and will use their initiative 
• a natural ability to establish and build long-term working relationships with colleagues, contractors, consultants, and clients  
• NZ commercial construction experience
