We are seeking a dynamic and research-driven Senior Lecturer in Machine Learning and Data Science to join our academic team. You will deliver high-quality teaching at the Masters level, focusing on advanced topics in Machine Learning (ML), Data Mining (DM), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Programming. In this role, you will guide students through complex concepts, foster innovative thinking, and prepare them for careers in these cutting-edge fields.

The appointing salary for this role will be between $85,000.000 and $95,000.000, dependent on skills and experience.

The Senior IT Lecturer Machine Learning & Data Science is based in our Center for Information Technology| Te Pūkenga reporting to the Dr Blaine H. Rakena and will be responsible for: 

· Designing and deliver in-depth lectures on advanced Machine Learning, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and related subjects, ensuring a rigorous, research-driven curriculum that includes supervised, unsupervised and deep learning paradigms.

· Supervise Masters-level research projects, guiding students in data analysis, algorithm development, and applying machine learning frameworks, including Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, and PyTorch.

· Develop and grade assessments, including data-driven evaluations and coding assignments, providing feedback to ensure computational proficiency in languages such as Python, R, and SQL.

· Mentor students in research methodologies, fostering expertise in predictive modelling, neural networks, deep learning, natural language processing (NLP), and computer vision.

· Contribute to research in cutting-edge areas of Machine Learning and Data Science, such as big data analytics and reinforcement learning, emphasizing publication in peer-reviewed journals.

· Actively engage with industry-standard tools like TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Python, applying these to teaching and research, including cloud-based solutions using AWS and Google Cloud.

· Utilize cloud computing platforms and frameworks like Apache Hadoop and Apache Spark to develop scalable data solutions integrated into the curriculum.

· Apply advanced techniques in model evaluation, feature engineering, hyperparameter tuning, and data preprocessing to enhance students' practical skill sets.

· Stay updated with innovations in AI ethics, data privacy (GDPR compliance), and algorithmic transparency, incorporating these topics into lectures and projects.

· Leadership and Project Management Skills: Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing multiple Agile projects, including requirement gathering, software design, and deployment using CI/CD pipelines.

· Technical Proficiency: Strong background in backend microservices architecture and cloud solutions (e.g., AWS, Azure) relevant to teaching and research.

· Supervision Experience: Proven track record of supervising and guiding Postgraduate students through technical challenges.

· Commitment to Quality: Adherence to quality assurance processes, such as TDD (Test-Driven Development) and BDD (Behaviour-Driven Development), contributing to high customer satisfaction levels (CSAT).

· Research Active: Must be part of the research culture that the Centre promotes, with a proven record of research publications and experience. Engage in collaborative projects, publish findings in reputable journals, and contribute to the advancement of knowledge within the field of Information Technology.
