Senior Communications Advisor – 9 months fixed term, full time

We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Senior Communications Advisor to join the QLDC Engagement and Communications team. 

It’s a significant time of change for local government with an increasing focus on climate adaption, zero waste education, community wellbeing, resilience and development, economic development initiatives, government-led reforms and much more. Alongside this, we’re stepping up to the challenge of delivering an ambitious programme of work, with over $1.6 billion in capital investment to be made over the next decade across the entire Queenstown Lakes District.  

From a communications and engagement perspective, the work is complex and interesting with a focus on some of these strategic initiatives. You’ll be working within a dedicated and hard-working team to keep our communities informed, improve opportunities for people to take part in decisions that affect them and share stories that help connect our communities with these important issues. 

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to lead and support communications for strategic communications projects across the organisation. To be successful you will have: 

• Broad experience providing strategic communications advice and support across a busy and complex organisation
• Proven relationship management and engagement skills
• A proven understanding of the local government environment, statutory requirements for public consultation and community engagement – ideally you will have direct experience in local government or similar public agency
• A proactive, can-do attitude with a high level of initiative
• A knack for distilling complex information into engaging content for a range of channels and audiences
