Crown Law provides legal advice and representation services to the Government in matters affecting the executive government. The services Crown Law provides include matters covering judicial review of government actions, constitutional questions including Te Tiriti o Waitangi/Treaty of Waitangi issues, the enforcement of criminal law, and the protection of revenue. Crown Law also administers the prosecution process in the criminal justice system, in particular, Crown prosecutions.

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role
Due to an internal secondment the Public Prosecutions Unit (PPU) are looking for a Senior Advisor to join until August 2026.
The PPU team was formed to support the increasing oversight of public prosecutions and the need to better manage the costs associated with Crown Prosecutions. As part of this work, the PPU administers the Crown Solicitor network including the funding of Crown Prosecutions, the conducting of performance reviews and the administration of the Crown Prosecutor classification system. In addition, the PPU also works closely with prosecuting agencies by undertaking reviews of their prosecution functions as well as supporting work undertaken by the Public Prosecutions Advisory board.
The Senior Advisor is responsible for:
• Supporting the Solicitor General’s general oversight of public prosecutions.
• Prepare and contribute to briefings, reports, and analysis to support assurance and broader decision‑making.
• Contribute to Crown Solicitor and prosecuting agency reviews, including in‑depth and survey‑based reviews.
• Build and maintain effective working relationships with Crown Solicitors, prosecuting agencies, and justice‑sector stakeholders
The ideal candidate will have:
• Significant experience in policy or advisory roles, ideally within the justice sector.
• Experience in engaging across a variety of stakeholders at different organisational levels.
• Experience leading and delivering on a variety of projects.
Candidates are not required to be practising lawyers or have a legal qualification for this role.

This role is Wellington based and located next to Wellington bus and train station.
What we offer
The appointing salary range for this role is $111,979-$144,429 based on skills and experience.
