 Mo tatou | About us - What we do Our role at Antarctica New Zealand is to support world-leading science and environmental protection in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean. Scott Base is the hub of New Zealand's activities in Antarctica and each year, we employ seasonal staff to manage base activity and support science in the field.
Mō te mahi | About the role - What you’ll be doing It takes a passionate, diverse, and highly skilled team to run Scott Base. You will join a diverse and motivated team in the world’s most dynamic workplace.As the Scott Base Science | IT Technical Support, you will be responsible for safely operating and maintaining New Zealand scientific installations in Antarctica and providing desktop and IT support services.Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Operation and maintenance of scientific instruments and equipment
  • Providing desktop and IT support services for Scott Base and event personnel
  • Collection, recording, and updating data associated with experiments or operations
  • Coordination of laboratory facilities, including hazardous chemicals
  • Monitoring of the wastewater treatment plant and drinking water quality testing
  • Support visiting science events with provision and coordination of resources
  • Serve on the Scott Base Fire Crew 

We have two positions available – 6 months (August to February 2026) to and 13 months (August 2026 to October 2027).
Mōu | About you - What you’ll bring We operate in one of the most remote locations in the globe, so our team needs to work well together, focus on safety and integrate successfully into the small community lifestyle. You are a highly motivated individual who enjoys teamwork, a dynamic work environment and is an excellent communicator. Skills and Experience Include:

  • Relevant qualification (Diploma or degree) in computing or a science discipline
  • At least five years post qualification experience in science/research environment and/or computing and network support
  • Current NZ motor vehicle licence Class 1 and ability to drive a manual vehicle
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and a customer service 'can do' attitude.
