Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About the Role

We’re looking for a strategic and hands-on Safety Business Partner to join our People, Culture and Wellbeing team. This role is pivotal in shaping a culture where health, safety, and wellbeing are embedded in every decision and action. You’ll partner with leaders to influence behaviours, build capability, and drive proactive risk management and continuous improvement across Toi Ohomai.

Our Safety Business Partners lead a portfolio of specialist responsibilities organisational wide, as well as partnering with leaders locally to integrate health and safety into strategic and operational planning, delivery and continuous improvement.

Ngā mahi | Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a strategic partner to leaders, embedding health and safety into planning and delivery.
  • Provide safety leadership through business partnership and hands on delivery of local safety responsibilities. 
  • Be a subject matter expert across your specialist portfolios (refer to attached position description for portfolio areas)
  • Design, develop, implement, and monitor designated areas of responsibility
  • Work collaboratively across the People, Culture and Wellbeing team and broader organisation
  • Champion Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equity in all aspects of practice.

Note: Specialist portfolio areas will be allocated between the two Safety Business Partner positions dependant on skill, capability, and business needs.

You’ll bring:

  • A degree-level qualification in health and safety (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience in a senior health and safety advisory role, and specifically in specialist portfolio areas.
  • Expertise in developing and implementing frameworks, policies, and standards.
  • Strong interpersonal and business partnering skills with a collaborative approach.
  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and promoting equity and inclusion.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships across diverse stakeholders.
