About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Risk and Assurance Advisor to join our Finance team on a permanent full-time basis in our award winning, vibrant Head Office in beautiful Port Chalmers.
- Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this role is responsible for providing risk management support across Port Otago, which includes:
- Maintaining and continuous improvement of the corporate risk register, with input from risk owners
- Providing assurance over our critical risk control system and monitoring and reporting on risk management plans
- Supporting insurance renewals, claims and broker relationships, and leading business continuity and crisis management planning
- Preparing risk and critical risk assurance reporting for the Leadership Team, Audit & Risk Committee and Board
- Facilitating risk assessment workshops and supporting business units to identify, assess and mitigate risks
- Supporting internal and external audit processes and tracking compliance obligations across relevant legislation and standards
About you
You’ll be a risk and assurance expert who brings sound judgement, curiosity and a practical approach to managing risk. You’ll enjoy building relationships and have the ability to translate risk concepts into clear, actionable advice for people who aren’t risk specialists.
You’ll be highly organised with excellent attention to detail, comfortable managing competing priorities, and confident using risk management systems to keep our risk register and reporting on track.
To be successful in this position you will also:
- Hold a tertiary qualification in risk management, business, law, finance or a related field
- Have 3–5 years’ experience in a risk, insurance, compliance or assurance role
- Have a sound understanding of risk management frameworks and enterprise risk practices
- Have experience maintaining risk registers and supporting insurance renewal processes
- Have strong analytical and report-writing skills, with the ability to communicate risk clearly to non-specialist audiences
- Be proactive, organised, and able to manage competing priorities with high attention to detail
- Have good IT and systems skills, including experience with risk management systems
