We are looking to appoint community minded, self-managing and resilient people with the special responsibility of Residential Assistant in Te Pā Tauira, Otago Polytechnic’s Student Village.  As an RA you will be a leader within our student community by:

· providing pastoral support to first year tertiary student

· organizing and running events for the community

· monitor and informing senior staff about community developments

· undertaking general administration and reporting tasks

Key to your success in this role will be your:

  • Ability to relate to and empathise with the challenges first year tertiary learners face
  • Ability to self-manage and organise your own workload
  • Resilience and self-care strategies which sustain your resilience. 
  • Genuine desire to support a community of people 
  • People focus and enjoyment in engaging and communicating with a diverse range of people
  • Understanding of professional boundaries in a support based role.

As part of this role, you must be enrolled in full-time study at Otago Polytechnic or Otago University for 2025 and be willing to live on-site.

You will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Excellent communication skills with a natural ability to engage and build      relationships
  • Be an effective Te Tiriti o Waitangi partner by supporting the values and tikaka of mana whenua throughout your mahi  
  • Good computer literacy and ability to use full suite of Microsoft products (particularly Word, Excel and SharePoint/Teams). 
  • Pass a police check 
  • Ability to work in NZ 

You will have demonstrable health and safety best practices and enjoy being part of a team who support each other.  You will easily be able to build and maintain relationships.
