Our role at Antarctica New Zealand is to support world-leading science and environmental protection in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean - including the operation of Scott Base, management of logistics to, from and within Antarctica and raising of public awareness regarding the global significance of the continent.
Mō te mahi | About the role - What you’ll be doing
The Reporting and Data Advisor will work within our Policy and Environment Team supporting both New Zealand’s strategic interests in Antarctica and strengthening New Zealand’s policy leadership in the Antarctic Treaty System. We play a leading role in managing the Antarctic and Southern Ocean environment, understanding pressures and impacts on associated ecosystems, and identifying management and policy responses by working closely with the science community. Additionally, the team provides accurate and timely policy advice to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and other stakeholders and meets all government reporting requirements.
Key Responsibilities Include:
· Review, coordinate and oversee the reporting against the organisation’s Statement of Intent (SOI) and the annual Statement of Performance Expectations (SPE) and four monthly Minister Report, ensuring performance measures meet audit and Treasury expectations
· Co-Ordination of Select Committee questions and oversight of preparation of committee briefing packs, anticipated questions, and talking points for senior leaders, including follow up correspondence and co-ordination with cross agency partners
· Manage a structured system for receiving, allocating, and tracking Written Parliamentary Questions (WPQs) across the organisation
· Oversee the end‑to‑end Official Information Act (OIA) process, ensuring requests are logged, triaged, allocated, and tracked against statutory deadlines.
· Oversee the collection, coordination, and consolidation of environmental monitoring data from relevant operational, scientific, and environmental teams.
· Oversee the organisation’s compliance with Antarctic Treaty information exchange requirements, including pre‑season, annual, and permanent reporting obligations.
· Monitor performance, report on metrics and trends, and drive continuous improvement in processes and capability on required reporting

Skills and Experience Include:
· Proven ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders and develop strong relationships
· Management of multiple data sets and inputs and creation relevant analytics and reports
· An understanding of the New Zealand public sector and requirements of reporting from Government entities.
· Understanding of the Official Information Act and appropriate response to requests
· Experience with Parliament and responding to requests such as Select Committee questions and Written Parliamentary Questions.
· Understanding of, and commitment to, tikanga and Treaty of Waitangi principles
· A degree in a relevant science field or environmental management and/or equivalent years of experience in a similar New Zealand government role.
· Demonstrated ability to influence and work with other teams to meet time timeframes and lead times
· Effective interpersonal skills, including the use of enquiry that supports understanding and support for plans and changes with a consistency lens
